2020-21 Reflections Theme: "I Matter Because..."

It's time for the annual PTA Reflections Contest!  Whether you're new to Reflections, or if you've entered before, this site will tell you everything you need to know to get involved this year.

WHAT IS REFLECTIONS?   Reflections is a contest for students to display their talents in the arts.  And whatever your interest, there is a category for you!

Visual Arts (drawing, painting, computer art, photo collage)
3-Dimensional Art (sculpture, mobiles, ceramics, jewelry, 3-D collage, textiles, Legos, anything not flat.  These items must be original-- not made from a kit.)
Photography (photos taken by the student)
Literature (poetry, story, essay, illustrated books)
Music (original compositions for voice or instrument)
Dance (original choreography)
Film (screenwriting, video, animation, etc.)

1. Read the rules. There are specifications for entry size, length, and the way it is presented. Use these links to find the rules for your category. You must use the theme “Within Reach".

2. Be creative! We want to see what you can do with your amazing talents! You can enter more than once, up to one entry in each category  – every submission gets a prize!

3. Submit your entry online at utahpta.org/ref.  If you are unable to digitally submit your entry, talk to your school secretary.  There is a PTA member at your school in charge of Reflections and they will help you submit your entry.

4. Consent Form. If your entry has someone else's voice or image (for example, someone in a photo, film, or dance number, or someone's voice in a video you made), you will need that person to sign a consent form.  Otherwise, you do not need this form.  For specific rules and examples see Consent Form Guidelines.  You'll be asked to scan and submit this form when you upload your entry.

5. Turn it in! Entries must be submitted online by the following dates:

Liberty and Longview Elementary: October 1st

Viewmont Elementary: October 20th

Form Information

Please include this information on your forms where indicated:

-Title of Work: Give your art a title! Please don't forget this important step.

-Grade Division: Find your grade and check the box.

-Arts Category: Find your category and check the box.  2D Art is defined as a picture you can hang on the wall.  Other visual art is considered 3D.

-Category Specifics: Fill in any information asked about your specific category.  For example, if your entry is literature, you need to write down the number of words in your entry.  If it's a film or dance, you need to write down the background music.

-If English is your second language, mark the box.

-Artist Statement: THIS IS EXTREMELY IMPORTANT! If you'd like to score well, you need a good artist statement that ties your artwork to the theme, "I Matter Because...". In 10-100 words, describe your work and how it relates to the theme.  Young children or special artists who cannot write clearly may have another person write the statement for them, but it should be written/typed exactly as the artist dictates.
